EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Electricity Distribution Companies, including Enugu, Abuja, and Eko Discos, confirmed the incident, with zero load allocations recorded for all 11 distribution companies.
It stated last night, “Due to this development, all our interface Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) stations are out of supply. As a result, we are unable to provide electricity to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states,” the statement, signed by EEDC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Emeka Ezeh, explained.
Similarly, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) issued a notice to its customers, stating: “Dear Valued Customer, please be informed that the power outage currently being experienced is due to a system failure from the national grid at 6:58 pm today. This has affected power supply to our franchise areas.”
However, TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah stated that the collapse did not affect the entire system, as the Akwa Ibom generating station was “islanded” to continue supplying power to areas through the Eket, Ekim, Uyo, and Itu 132 kV substations.
Mbah further confirmed that recovery efforts are in progress and power has already been restored to some regions.
Power restoration is ongoing as TCN works to fully stabilize the grid.
