The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has officially handed over a temporary National Control Centre (NCC) in Abuja to the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO).
Eko Hot Blog reports that this operational transition is designed to significantly improve electricity grid management and boost overall system reliability across the country. The facility will serve as NISO’s temporary base while work continues on the permanent control center.

Located at the Gwagwalada 330kV Transmission Substation, the temporary center houses the newly acquired Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition and Energy Management System (SCADA-EMS), along with the telecommunications equipment required for real-time monitoring of the national grid.
The official handover took place on June 30, according to a statement released on Thursday by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.
During the event, TCN Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Sule Abdulaziz, represented by the General Manager of Project Coordination, Amini Tahir, described the project as a major milestone.

He noted that the building was designed to accommodate the SCADA-EMS infrastructure and operational staff, allowing NISO to oversee grid operations efficiently.
Abdulaziz also commended the World Bank for its vital support of the project, emphasizing that the collaboration lays the groundwork for a more resilient power sector.
Responding to the handover, NISO Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Abdu Mohammed Bello, represented by the General Manager of System Planning, Kabir Adamu, emphasized the importance of the SCADA-EMS technology.
He stated that the control room gives NISO the immediate environment needed to operationalize the system.
TCN’s Project Manager, Samuel Fakinlade, clarified that once the permanent National Control Centre in Gwagwalada is completed, all personnel and equipment will move to the permanent site, and the temporary facility will revert to TCN.
