The judge, Kabir Muhammad, handed down the ruling after Usman pleaded guilty to the charges of assault and causing harm. He was given an option of a fine in addition to the compensation.

According to the prosecutor, ASP Luka Sadau, the victim, Zainab Idris, a resident of Kigo Road, New Extension, reported the case to the Sabon Gari Police Station on January 15.

Sadau told the court that the accused and the victim had agreed to meet at a hotel on Constitution Road for full-time service at a fee of N10,000. However, an argument broke out between them inside the hotel room, leading to a violent altercation.

“During the disagreement, Dahiru Usman began beating her and struck her on the head with a hammer, causing her serious injury,” Sadau stated.

The police recovered the hammer from the scene and presented it as evidence before the court.

The prosecutor urged the court to ensure justice was served by punishing the accused and ordering him to pay the compensation for the victim’s medical expenses.

In his ruling, Judge Muhammad condemned Usman’s actions and emphasized the need for justice. He stated that acts of violence should not be tolerated in society and that offenders must be held accountable.

The judge gave Usman the option of either serving a one-month jail term or paying a fine. However, he made it clear that the compensation of N70,000 must be paid or the accused would face an extended prison sentence of 12 months.
