Eko Hot Blog reports that the Island Club has elected a new executive committee after a keenly contested electoral process.
The election held at the social club in Lagos on Friday, May 17, 2024.

Prince Rotimi Martins secured the Chairmanship with 272 votes, while Engineer Ademola Amure was elected Vice Chairman after garnering 370 votes.
Likewise, Aare Dele Bankole won the General Secretary role with 278 votes, while Awe Jamiu Abolore emerged victorious in the race for Assistant General Secretary, polling 322 votes.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Akinwumi Ambode were some of the top personalities who voted in the earlier.
The election was not without its challenges, as confrontations and heated exchanges marked some moments.
However, the exercise ultimately proceeded smoothly, reflecting the club’s unwavering commitment to democratic ideals and its focus on organizational goals over obstacles.
“Despite initial issues, the election went ahead without any glitches, a testament to our unflinching commitment to democratic values which are the mantra of this organization,” a statement from the club said.
In an exclusive interview, the newly elected Assistant General Secretary Awe called for unity among members to realize the club’s vision of impacting members and the community.
“I urge all to close ranks and stay focused on our goals of uplifting our members and giving back to society,” he stated.
Other elected officials include Mr. Eyitayo Adeboeale (Treasurer), Alhaji Tajudeen Ekemode (Social Secretary), Alhaji Taofeek Oyesiji (Sport Secretary), Mr. Labrar Folami (Assistant Social Secretary) and a 10-man Management Committee comprising Mr. Babatunde Ottun, Mr. Olalekan Awe, Mr. Adedapo Adekunle, Mr. Oludotun Lesi, Otunba Taiwo Fanirodada, Mr. Taiwo Abass, Mr. Abiodun Sowunmi, Mr. Ademola Lawal, Mr. Omotayo Adewakun, and Alhaji Kayode.

The Island Club has an illustrious history dating back to October 29, 1943 when it was founded by 50 distinguished Nigerians and non-Nigerians in Lagos to foster good fellowship.
After Nigeria’s independence in 1960, its prestige soared, attracting top diplomats, business leaders, civil servants and professionals into its fold. Current membership stands at over 7,000 spanning 36 Nigerian states and other countries.
