According to a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu will proceed to Brazil after his Saint Lucia engagement to attend the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
While in Saint Lucia, Tinubu will pay courtesy visits to the Governor General, His Excellency Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles, and Prime Minister Philip Pierre. A major highlight of his visit will be an address to a joint session of the Senate and House of Assembly of Saint Lucia at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom, Sandals Grande, Gros Islet.

Dignitaries expected to attend the special session include Heads of Government from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), senior officials, members of the diplomatic corps, the Nigerian community in Saint Lucia, and the Director General of OECS, Dr Didacus Jules.
Following the address, the President will host a high-level working luncheon with OECS leaders to discuss ways to deepen cooperation between Nigeria and the OECS in areas such as economic growth and cultural solidarity.
The President will also visit the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in Castries to promote academic collaboration and educational exchange.
President Tinubu’s visit underlines Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with Caribbean nations, especially under the African Union’s Sixth Region initiative, which recognizes the African diaspora as a key development partner.
Nigeria and Saint Lucia maintain shared memberships in global bodies like the United Nations and the Commonwealth of Nations and are connected through a common African heritage.
The visit is expected to foster partnerships in infrastructure, education, youth development, and diplomacy.
After completing his engagements in Saint Lucia, President Tinubu will travel to Brazil to attend the 2025 BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, scheduled for July 6 to 7.

Tinubu who was invited by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in recognition of Nigeria’s status as a “partner country”—a level above guest status but not full membership.
Currently, South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia are African members of BRICS.
The 17th BRICS Summit will focus on “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance,” with key discussions on social, economic, and environmental development through South-South partnerships.
Senior Nigerian government officials will accompany the President on both legs of the trip.
