Lt General Waidi Shaibu, the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, has assured Nigerian Army personnel that their welfare remains the top priority under the current administration.
Eko Hot Blog reports that he also outlined plans to tackle the long-standing issue of accommodation in army barracks nationwide.

The Chief of Army Staff made the remarks on Thursday during visits to troops of the 82 Division at its headquarters in Enugu State and the Forward Operations Base in Ivo, Abia State. A statement issued by Army spokesperson Lt Colonel Apollonia Anele said Shaibu commended the troops for their dedication to maintaining security within the Division’s area of responsibility.
He acknowledged that their sacrifices have played a key role in improving the security situation across the South East. “He assured them that their welfare remains a top priority and encouraged them to remain proud of their service to the nation. He also pledged to address the challenge of accommodation in army barracks across the country,” the statement said.

The COAS also attended, as a Special Guest of Honour, the closing ceremony of the 2nd Regimental Sergeant Majors Convention 2025 in Enugu. He highlighted the vital role of RSMs as the link between officers and soldiers and as custodians of discipline and regimentation. Shaibu described the conference, themed “RSM Roles in Operational Readiness and Combat Effectiveness,” as a platform for exchanging ideas aimed at strengthening leadership, discipline and operational readiness across all formations.
The Chief of Administration, Maj General Isa Abdullahi, who organised the event, praised the RSMs for their commitment to upholding discipline. He noted that the convention had improved participants’ understanding of regimental responsibilities and enhanced their leadership skills.
During his visit to Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, the COAS commended the people of the state for their support to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies. He assured that the army would remain proactive in tackling national security challenges and emphasised that sustained collaboration among the armed forces, other security agencies and the public would ensure insecurity becomes a thing of the past.
