EKO HOT BLOG reports that Tinubu, who flew in from Los Angeles, United States, was received at the Brasília Air Base by senior Brazilian government officials, including Ambassador Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, and Brazil’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete. Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, was also present at the reception.
The President later moved to his hotel, where he was welcomed by ministers, heads of government agencies, and members of the private sector, all set to participate in bilateral meetings and Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) signings.
A formal welcoming ceremony, with full military honours, is scheduled at the Planalto Palace, where Tinubu will meet Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Both leaders will hold private talks before expanded bilateral discussions, sign MoUs, and address a joint press conference.
During the visit, Tinubu is also expected to meet the leaders of Brazil’s Senate, Chamber of Deputies, and Supreme Federal Court, while also participating in the Nigeria-Brazil Business Forum.
Nigeria and Brazil share decades of strong diplomatic relations dating back to the 1960s. Brazil was the only Latin American country to attend Nigeria’s independence celebrations in 1960, and both countries have since strengthened cooperation in trade, agriculture, defence, and energy.

In recent years, high-level exchanges have intensified, with several MoUs signed under the Nigeria-Brazil Mechanism for Strategic Dialogue. Brazil also plays a crucial role in Nigeria’s food security drive, with major investments in agriculture and mechanisation.
Tinubu’s visit is expected to further consolidate Nigeria-Brazil relations and expand opportunities in key sectors.
