EKO HOT BLOG reports that Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Rep. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, confirmed the development while briefing journalists in Kano. He disclosed that the Kano Metropolis Light Rail Project, valued at $1 billion (about ₦1.5 trillion), has reached the procurement stage.
“For those who have travelled abroad, especially to Europe and Asia, they understand the value of such projects. When completed, this light rail will greatly enhance Kano’s economy,” Bichi said.
Responding to claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has neglected the North, Bichi dismissed the notion as unfounded. He stressed that the President has launched significant projects across the region in infrastructure, health, agriculture, education, and security.
Key Infrastructure Projects in the North:
Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road: Nearing completion.
Kaduna-Abuja Road (400km): Contract revoked and re-awarded; new contractor making progress, with delivery expected by Q1 next year.
Kano-Hadejia Road (200km): Fully completed.
Kano Northern Bypass: Project valued at over ₦250 billion.
Bichi said his visit to Kano was also to attend the All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders’ meeting aimed at strategising ahead of the 2027 general elections and to express solidarity with former APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.
“In the last election, Kano gave the President over 500,000 votes, the highest from any state. We are working to strengthen our position ahead of 2027. This meeting also reaffirms our support for Dr. Ganduje, whose leadership helped secure many PDP states for the APC,” he stated.
