EKO HOT BLOG reports that this was disclosed in a statement on Saturday night by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The high-level security meeting, scheduled to begin on October 14, will bring together Heads of State and Government, senior intelligence and military officials from across Africa, as well as representatives of international and non-governmental organisations. Discussions will centre on the evolving security threats in West Africa, including terrorism, organised crime, and maritime insecurity.
The Aqaba Process, a counter-terrorism initiative launched in 2015 by King Abdullah II of Jordan, is co-chaired by Jordan and the Italian government. The forum seeks to strengthen collaboration among regional and international partners to tackle cross-border threats, with particular attention to the growing link between land-based terrorism in the Sahel and maritime piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.
During the sessions, participants are expected to review the regional security landscape, exchange intelligence insights, and design new strategies to counter the terror threat both on land and sea. They will also explore ways to combat online radicalisation and dismantle digital platforms used for terrorist propaganda and recruitment.
President Tinubu is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with other world leaders on the sidelines of the summit to strengthen Nigeria’s security cooperation and explore strategies for lasting peace in West Africa.
He will be accompanied by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu–Ojukwu; Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed, and other top government officials.
