According to the police boss, operatives on May 24 foiled a planned kidnapping operation around Jakande Estate Gate in Ejigbo after receiving credible intelligence about a gang allegedly targeting a businessman in the area.
He explained that the operatives came under heavy gunfire when they moved in on the suspects, leading to a fierce exchange during which four members of the gang were neutralised, while another suspect escaped with gunshot wounds.
A police officer reportedly sustained gunshot injuries to the leg during the operation and is currently receiving treatment.
Recovered from the scene were an AK-47 rifle, a submachine gun with loaded magazines, a Toyota Sienna vehicle and several vehicle keys believed to be linked to stolen vehicles used by the gang.
The Command also announced the arrest of a 57-year-old suspect in Ibadan, Oyo State, for allegedly stealing a Toyota Hiace bus belonging to his employer and attempting to alter the vehicle’s documents to evade detection.

Police said the vehicle was later recovered through coordinated tracking operations.
In another intelligence-led operation, operatives recovered a locally fabricated firearm from the residence of a suspected cult leader in the Igando area following surveillance linked to cult-related activities.
The police further disclosed the arrest of a suspect connected to a petroleum theft case valued at over ₦1 billion.
According to the Command, the suspect was tracked to Delta State and allegedly confessed during interrogation, leading investigators to the recovery of assets and cash worth over ₦300 million.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest another suspect currently on the run.
In a separate case, detectives uncovered what they described as a staged kidnapping involving a scrap dealer who allegedly connived with accomplices to fake his own abduction in an attempt to extort ₦1.5 million from his employer.
Investigators said the suspects recorded a video to support the false kidnap claim before eventually confessing after inconsistencies were discovered during interrogation.
The Command also confirmed the arrest of two suspected vehicle vandals in Bariga after residents raised an alarm, while a stolen Toyota Sienna and other exhibits were recovered.
In another operation along Shasha Road, police operatives intercepted a vehicle containing a loaded revolver pistol and a knife during a stop-and-search exercise.
Meanwhile, officers also recovered a locally fabricated firearm abandoned by fleeing robbery suspects in Ikola after the suspects reportedly escaped upon sighting police operatives.
The suspects also abandoned a motorcycle during the operation.
The Lagos State Police Command assured residents that it would continue aggressive patrols, surveillance and intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks across the state.
Police added that all suspects would be prosecuted after investigations and urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
