- Rear Admiral Mustapha said Lagos State occupies a strategic position in naval operations
The Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Oba Rilwan Akiolu, has expressed strong confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will complete two terms in office, saying a dream he had foretold the President’s re-election and an eight-year tenure.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the monarch made the declaration on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the 46th Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral A. A. Mustapha, to the palace.

Oba Akiolu urged Nigerians to remain patient with the Tinubu administration, assuring that the country would soon begin to reap the benefits of the far-reaching reforms currently being implemented. He described the prevailing economic hardship as a temporary sacrifice necessary for long-term national growth and stability.
“I dreamt that President Tinubu will be re-elected and will spend 8 years as President of Nigeria,” the Oba said. “There is no doubt Nigeria has challenges, but we will overcome them. The suffering of today is for a better tomorrow.”
The traditional ruler stressed that the responsibility of rebuilding and securing the country rests on all Nigerians, not only the government. He also commended officers and men of the Nigerian Navy for their dedication, professionalism and continued efforts in safeguarding the nation’s waterways.
Describing the Navy’s role in Lagos as critical, Oba Akiolu noted that no well-meaning citizen would fail to support the service in carrying out its constitutional duties. He further called for the establishment of a joint intelligence board to strengthen intelligence gathering and information sharing among security agencies.

Earlier, Rear Admiral Mustapha said the visit was aimed at seeking the support of traditional institutions, noting that monarchs play a vital role in maintaining peace and security at the grassroots.
He explained that Lagos State occupies a strategic position in naval operations, as over 70 per cent of cargoes entering Nigeria pass through the state, in addition to its vast and sensitive inland waterways.
The naval chief also recalled a previous encounter with the Oba of Lagos, during which the monarch advised him to prepare early for retirement, an advice he said had positively shaped his career.
