The event was recently renamed “Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day” from the former “Armed Forces Remembrance Day” to reflect its expanded focus on celebrating serving personnel while also remembering fallen heroes.
The vice-president paid tribute to members of the armed forces and other security agencies who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing their sacrifices as the ultimate price paid in defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and the safety of its citizens.
He expressed confidence that Nigeria would witness lasting peace and stability under President Tinubu’s leadership, noting that the administration remains resolute in supporting the military with the resources and motivation required to overcome insecurity.
Shettima also offered prayers for the repose of the souls of fallen officers and men, asking God to grant strength and comfort to their families.
