Tragedy Strikes in Ibadan: 16 Lives Lost in Road Collisions
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the tragic loss of 16 lives in a multi-vehicle collision along the Ojoo-Iwo Road section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday.
Mayowa Odewo, the spokesperson for the FRSC’s Oyo State Sector Command, revealed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan that an additional 17 individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries in the accident.
Out of the 35 people involved in the crash, which included 14 adult males, 10 adult females, six female children, and five male children, two emerged unscathed.

Odewo identified the cause of the accident as a brake failure on a Mack truck with the license plate AKM 548 ZY. The truck collided with three other vehicles: a Nissan commercial bus (MUB 20 LG), a Nissan Micra taxi (BDJ 520 YC), and a private Honda Accord SUV (KRD 707 ER).
Emergency responders rushed the injured victims to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the deceased were handed over to the police. The accident vehicles were towed to the Irepodun Police Station on Agbowo-Ojoo Road.
Odewo expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and stressed the importance of cautious driving and regular vehicle maintenance to prevent such tragic incidents in the future. He noted that none of the victims were saved by seat belts or other safety devices.
