Troops of Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, have killed a Boko Haram terrorist and disrupted an alleged ISWAP operation aimed at extorting residents in parts of Yobe State.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, said troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Bukarti, in collaboration with the 27 Task Force Brigade, launched an aggressive fighting patrol along the Paya Kafiya axis on July 19.

According to him, the troops encountered the terrorists and engaged them with superior firepower during the operation.

“The troops made contact with the terrorists and immediately engaged them with overwhelming and superior firepower,” Goni said.

He explained that one of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles was immobilised during the exchange of gunfire, while its driver was killed.

The military spokesman added that four other suspected terrorists abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes with gunshot wounds.

A follow-up clearance operation conducted on July 20 along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis led to the recovery of the abandoned vehicle and several items believed to have supported the group’s operations.

Recovered items included 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, one loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 empty PKT ammunition cases, assorted drugs, including paracetamol and nicotine products, as well as mechanical tools.

Goni said the successful operation demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in disrupting terrorist logistics and dismantling illicit revenue networks across the North East.

He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups in collaboration with other security agencies.

“Operation HADIN KAI remains resolute in maintaining relentless pressure on terrorist elements and will continue to conduct intelligence-driven offensive operations, in synergy with other security agencies and with the continued support of law-abiding citizens, until terrorism is decisively defeated and enduring peace, security and stability are fully restored across the region,” he said.
