Trump cited concerns about global destabilization and a misalignment of aid with American interests. A key focus of the review is the effectiveness of U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) health funds.
In a statement on its verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, the U.S. Mission to Nigeria confirmed that monitoring systems are in place to track past assistance provided by the U.S. government.
“Comprehensive monitoring and evaluation systems are in place to help verify that U.S. assistance reaches intended recipients,” the mission stated.

The U.S. Mission also condemned Boko Haram’s continued violence in Nigeria, reaffirming its stance against terrorism in the region.
“The United States condemns the violence and blatant disregard for human life perpetrated by Boko Haram and other terrorist groups in Nigeria and the region,” it declared.
Boko Haram has been officially designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the U.S. Secretary of State since November 14, 2013.
This designation aims to restrict the group’s fundraising, freeze assets, prosecute its members, and prevent their travel to the United States.
