Ondo State has approved the establishment of Diaspora Focal Desks in all 18 Local Government Areas as part of efforts to strengthen engagement with its citizens living abroad and deepen grassroots development.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the initiative, announced after a stakeholders’ meeting in Akure, is designed to decentralise diaspora relations by creating direct liaison points within each local government to coordinate communication, data gathering, partnerships and community-based interventions driven by Ondo indigenes across the world.

The meeting, attended by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, local government chairmen, and the Commissioner for Regional Integration and Diaspora Relations, Otunba Wale Akinlosotu, affirmed the government’s commitment to making diaspora engagement more accessible and community-focused.
Akinlosotu said the new structure aligns with the administration’s OUR EASE development agenda, noting that the desks will bring global opportunities closer to local communities while enhancing the state’s capacity to leverage investments and expertise from its diaspora population.

He added that the move represents another milestone in Ondo’s push to harness diaspora contributions for economic development, cultural exchange, and policy support.
“Ondo State continues to set the pace as a model for subnational diaspora engagement in Nigeria – one that is people-focused, globally connected, and development-driven,” the commissioner said.
Ondo joins Enugu, Kano, Cross River, Edo and the Federal Capital Territory, which have previously created similar desk offices at the local government level.
