EKO HOT BLOG reports that the incident was confirmed by his brother, renowned poet and public commentator, Dike Chukwumerije, in a statement released Monday. He said the attack occurred while the Commissioner was returning from Okigwe to Umuahia.
“He was on his way from Okigwe to Umuahia when the car behind him opened fire. It was not his time to die. So, he and the three others with him escaped unscathed, even though the car was riddled with bullets,” Dike stated.
Chukwumerije, who has served in Governor Otti’s cabinet for the past two years, was praised by his brother for his integrity, loyalty, and devotion to public service. He described him as a man who has supported Otti since 2015, pouring his time and resources into each election campaign.
“Even when they were rigged out, he came home and licked his wounds with quiet dignity,” Dike wrote, commending his brother for always upholding values that aligned with the family’s principles.
Reflecting on the governor’s performance, Dike expressed satisfaction with the transformation in Abia State, saying, “In two years, Abia has turned around… I am proud to be Abian.”
