The United States secured a place in the FIFA World Cup knockout stage after defeating Australia 2-0 in Seattle on Friday, becoming one of the first teams to qualify for the Round of 32.
The victory, achieved with a match still to play in the group stage, sees the Americans join co-hosts Mexico in advancing to the next round. They could also finish top of Group D if Turkey fail to defeat Paraguay later on Friday, Eko Hot Blog gathered.

Buoyed by their emphatic victory over Paraguay in the opening match, the United States enjoyed strong support from a packed Lumen Field as fans created a lively atmosphere throughout the contest.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino was forced to make changes after star forward Christian Pulisic failed to recover from a calf injury. The Argentine introduced Ricardo Pepi alongside Folarin Balogun in a two-man attack.
The hosts made a dream start in the 11th minute when Balogun burst down the left flank and delivered a low cross that Australian defender Cameron Burgess inadvertently turned into his own net while trying to prevent Pepi from scoring.
Australia struggled to create meaningful opportunities in the opening half after making notable changes to the side that defeated Turkey in their first match.
The Americans doubled their lead just before the break through Alex Freeman.
Following a cleverly worked free-kick routine, Sergino Dest’s effort deflected into Freeman’s path, and the young defender headed home. Although the assistant referee initially flagged for offside, a VAR review confirmed the goal.

Australia responded with three substitutions at halftime and improved after the restart.
Cristian Volpato wasted the visitors’ best opportunity by firing over the bar, while Connor Metcalfe also tested the American goalkeeper as the Socceroos searched for a way back into the contest.
Despite late pressure from Australia, the United States remained organised defensively to preserve their clean sheet and secure qualification for the knockout rounds.
The Americans will now face Turkey in their final group match with qualification already guaranteed, while growing hopes of a deep run in the tournament continue to build among home supporters.
