UTME Candidates Face Long Delays at Lagos CBT Centre

- UTME candidates in Lagos faced hours-long delays at a CBT centre.
- Technical issues with iPhone-only scanners slowed registration.
- JAMB approved 870 centres, with exams starting March 8
Some candidates registering for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Lagos faced long delays on Monday, spending up to six hours at a Computer-Based Testing (CBT) centre in Abule Egba.
The UTME, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), had its registration delayed from January 31 to February 5, with a closing date set for March 5.

However, technical issues at the Perfect Angel CBT Centre caused significant delays for applicants.
Despite arriving early, many candidates, including Miss Success Enonfu and her twin sister, were unable to complete their registration.
“We have been here since morning. The system was very slow, and we were asked to return tomorrow,” Enonfu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Others, like Miss Favour Adenle, expressed frustration over the delay. “I came on Friday only to be told registration had been postponed. Now, after waiting for hours today, I still haven’t completed the process,” she said.
Mr. Emmanuel Owobu, a repeat UTME candidate, admitted he had almost given up on further education due to past challenges.
“My parents encouraged me to try again, but now I’ve been sitting here for hours without progress,” he lamented.
Explaining the cause of the delay, Mr. Olaoluwa Adefamoye, manager of the CBT centre, stated that the registration system only accepted iPhone scanners, significantly slowing down the process.
“We have ten operators ready, but this restriction has reduced efficiency. We have about 80 candidates waiting, but have only registered a few,” he said.
Adefamoye urged JAMB to allow scanners from other devices to improve registration speed.
JAMB has approved 870 CBT centres for the 2025 UTME, an increase from 747 in 2024.
The examination is set to begin on March 8, with a mock UTME scheduled for February 23.

The UTME registration fee remains N7,200, with candidates opting for the mock exam paying N8,200, while direct entry candidates are charged N5,700.
JAMB has also introduced a UTME Mock Trial for candidates below 16 to help them familiarize themselves with the process before taking the real exam.
