He revealed his hope that PM Starmer would hold detailed discussions with US leaders, including Trump, focused on securing Ukraine’s future.
“Before the war can truly end, I want to have all the agreements ready and backed by both the US and European partners. This is critical,” Zelenskyy said.
“For this to work, we need to hear a clear position from President Trump.”
Zelenskyy also urged Trump to take firm personal actions to deter Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressing confidence in Trump’s ability to pressure Moscow.
“I believe the US has the strength to take independent decisions,” he said.
“Donald Trump has the power to provide us with a large supply of air defence systems the US has more than enough. I also believe he can push hard enough to make Putin feel the pressure.”
The Ukrainian leader pointed out that while Europe has already introduced 18 rounds of sanctions, a strong and decisive sanctions package from the US remains key.
“Europe has done its part with multiple sanctions. What’s missing now is strong action from the US side.”
