EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking to journalists on Monday in Abuja, Wike affirmed that Tinubu would record significant success in the Federal Capital Territory during the next polls. He insisted that the presidency must remain in the southern region of the country.
“I have told you this before… You want me to say no?” Wike said when asked if he would spearhead Tinubu’s campaign. “Are you not aware that he didn’t get up to 10 per cent here in FCT? But he will win here. Because I have said the South must produce the president.”
Wike, a former Rivers State Governor, also confirmed that he would take charge of Tinubu’s campaign in Rivers State, stressing his loyalty to the President and commitment to his political vision.
On the political tension in Rivers State, Wike denied having any personal conflict with the suspended state governor, Siminalayi Fubara. He, however, criticised Fubara for allegedly allowing himself to be used by political actors seeking to challenge him.
“I don’t have any crisis with him,” Wike said. “Rather, the governor, unknown to me, gave himself to be the tool for those who couldn’t fight me to fight me.”
Wike also distanced himself from any support for the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. He clarified that had President Tinubu consulted him beforehand, he would have opposed the move.

“If Mr President had called me, I wouldn’t have agreed to the State of Emergency. I have never supported it,” he added. “But what I said was that the declaration was to save the governor because he was almost impeached.”
Wike concluded by warning against the ongoing political impunity, particularly within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing some party actors as “undertakers” bent on creating internal crises.
