A final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, Yetunde Lawal, has been gruesomely murdered, allegedly by the son of a prominent Islamic cleric, plunging her family and the academic community into mourning.
According to sources, Yetunde went missing on Monday, February 10, 2025, after attending a naming ceremony.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that she reportedly received a phone call, left her food behind, and stepped out, never to return. Concerned about her disappearance, her father, Ibrahim Lawal, reported the case to the Oja-Oba police division in Ilorin the following day.
Social media reports from the victim’s kinsmen revealed that police tracked Yetunde’s last phone call, leading them to a suspect in the Ofa Garage area of Ilorin.
Initially, the suspect denied any knowledge of her whereabouts, but upon searching his residence, police discovered her dismembered body hidden in a bowl along with tools used for the act.
The suspect, who allegedly met Yetunde on Facebook and invited her over, initially claimed she had died from an asthma attack. However, further evidence in his home suggested he might have committed similar crimes before, as officers found tools that appeared to be used for body dismemberment.
The Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident, stating that detectives acted swiftly after the missing person report was filed. The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Authorities have assured the public that more updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
