Babagana Umara Zulum has revealed that he rejected pressure from supporters, allies and family members urging him to contest for a Senate seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Governor of Borno State made the disclosure during a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress in Maiduguri ahead of the House of Representatives primary election scheduled for Thursday.

According to Zulum, he chose party unity and stability over personal political ambition, insisting that preserving peace within the APC was more important than pursuing a Senate position.
He explained that despite intense appeals from people close to him, he decided not to join the Senate race in order to maintain cordial relationships among party members and prevent internal divisions.
The Borno State governor also urged aspirants contesting under the APC platform to embrace understanding, dialogue and cooperation throughout the party’s primary process.
He called for wider consultations among party stakeholders to encourage the emergence of consensus candidates and reduce tension within the party.

While expressing support for consensus arrangements, Zulum stressed that no candidate should be imposed on any constituency against the wishes of party members.
He maintained that aspirants and delegates still have the right to participate in a democratic process where consensus efforts fail.
According to him, the party should allow transparent primary elections to hold in areas where agreements cannot be reached among stakeholders.
