EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement released on Sunday, October 26, the NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, said the temporary shutdown was necessary to enhance safety, reliability, and passenger comfort.
“The suspension allowed us to carry out critical repairs, maintenance, and system checks on the tracks and rolling stock to ensure safe and efficient operations,” Unyimadu said.
He confirmed that online ticket booking would reopen by 12 noon on Monday, October 27, via the NRC portal (https://nrc-fane.ng) and at designated train stations along the route.
Unyimadu assured passengers that the corporation has improved its maintenance procedures and operational efficiency to prevent future disruptions. “Our goal is not just to resume service but to enhance reliability, comfort, and safety for every passenger on board,” he said.
The NRC also expressed appreciation to passengers and stakeholders for their patience during the suspension period, promising a smoother and safer travel experience.
According to the statement, operations will resume with seven coaches — six standard class and one business class — while a new timetable, including temporary speed restrictions, will be released on Monday to ensure safe monitoring of the newly repaired tracks.
The Warri–Itakpe rail corridor, a 326-kilometre standard gauge line connecting Delta and Kogi states, plays a key role in linking the South-South, South-East, and North-Central regions. It serves as a major route for both passengers and cargo, boosting trade and industrial activities in cities like Agbor, Uromi, and Ajaokuta.

NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, reaffirmed the corporation’s commitment to maintaining international standards in railway service delivery.
