As preparations continue for the forthcoming birthday celebration of His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos, on October 29, 2025, the monarch has appealed to members of the public, corporate organizations, and well-meaning individuals to redirect funds meant for congratulatory messages toward charitable initiatives.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement from the palace, the Oba of Lagos advised that instead of placing paid messages in newspapers, on television, or radio, well-wishers should contribute to community development projects and humanitarian causes within Lagos Island.

According to the release, His Royal Majesty encouraged donations to support the purchase of essential drugs and medical supplies for key health institutions, including the Zenith Iga Idunganran Health Center, Police Hospital Falomo, Massey Street Children’s Hospital, and other Primary Health Centers across Lagos Island.
Additionally, the monarch urged support for the procurement and installation of solar street lights in mosques and churches across Lagos Island, with particular attention to the Oba’s Mosque at Okiti Lane and the Methodist Church on Iga Idunganran Street, Isale-Eko.
The palace further disclosed that a dedicated account will soon be opened to manage all contributions toward these charitable efforts, with details to be made public in due course.

The Oba of Lagos expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the continued love and goodwill shown by the people, extending his warm regards to all who have supported his reign and the development of Lagos Island.
