EKO HOT BLOG reports that the incident occurred last Friday at Mafuyai’s off-campus residence, where Timnan reportedly attacked and killed him with a machete before burying his body in a shallow grave behind the house.
Sources said both students were close friends who often played football, recorded music, and spent time together. Witnesses told reporters that the two had returned from a recording studio before Timnan allegedly fetched a machete and attacked Mafuyai.
“People in the compound shouted for help, but before they returned, he had buried the body behind the house,” one witness said.
Police have since invited residents of the compound for questioning, though the motive remains unclear. Some reports suggested a disagreement over a music project, but authorities have not confirmed this.
The incident has cast a shadow over preparations for the Nigerian University Games (NUGA) 2025, set to hold at UniJos in about ten days. A university official, who spoke anonymously, said the tragedy occurred “at a very critical time,” adding that it could heighten safety concerns among visiting athletes.
When contacted, UniJos Acting Head of Information, Tongdyen Dachung, said she could not comment until official details were confirmed. The Student Union Government President, Jane Pwajok, confirmed the case was under investigation and urged students to avoid spreading unverified information that could affect the university’s image ahead of the games.

As of press time, the Plateau State Police Command had not issued a statement. The university community remains in mourning, with students describing Mafuyai as a kind and cheerful person.
