EKO HOT BLOG reports that Governor Diri had earlier on Monday announced his defection from the PDP to the APC, claiming that the decision was made in the interest of Bayelsa State.
Reacting, Wike described Diri’s move as ironic, recalling that the Bayelsa governor had previously accused him of working against the PDP. He said Diri should be thankful for “seeing the light.”
“Diri has said he has left the PDP, and I’m one of the happiest persons today,” Wike said. “When he was in the PDP, he accused me of working for the APC to destroy the party. He was even the chairman of the PDP zoning committee.”
The former Rivers State governor further recounted his political journey, explaining that he joined the PDP in 1998 and had served in several capacities, including as a local government chairman and as a two-term governor.
He continued, “If Diri believes I was working with APC, then he should come and thank me. He should pay me and say, ‘Thank you for opening my eyes to see the light.’”
Wike maintained that his loyalty to the PDP remains unshaken despite internal divisions, stating that he had defended the party even during difficult times.

“When I was a governor under Buhari’s administration, everything was done to kill the PDP, but I fought hard to keep it alive,” he said. “Leadership is key to everything. The same man they claimed was killing PDP is still in PDP.”
