Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area and Chairman of Conference 57 of Local Government Chairmen in Lagos State, received the branch chairmen of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) at the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Secretariat.

In his keynote address, Hon. Olowa highlighted the strategic role of NULGE in grassroots governance and development.
The Executive Chairman, who identified as a comrade, praised the branch chairmen for their deep-rooted unionist background, describing unionism as “a veritable tool for building good representatives.”
Quoting former U.S. Secretary of State, General Collin Powell, from It Worked for Me: In Life and Leadership, he said:
“Whatever job you’re doing, do it well, as you never know who is watching you.”
Hon. Olowa further assured workers of enhanced welfare, stating, “As leaders at the third tier of government, we recognize that our success is intertwined with the well-being and productivity of our workforce.
I assure all Conference 58 executives and NULGE members that we are prioritizing increased welfare packages and improved working conditions to motivate our dedicated staff.”
The NULGE Branch Chairman, Ibeju-Lekki, Comrade Liafiz Lawal Adaranijo, commended Hon. Olowa’s leadership, describing him as a father figure to the union.
He listed key benefits workers have enjoyed under the current administration, including the provision of a dedicated staff bus and an increase in monthly staff welfare imprest to ₦2 million, among other incentives.
Responding on behalf of all branch chairmen, Comrade Arowosafe Adesina expressed satisfaction with the chairman’s proactive engagement.
“This hosting reaffirms the administration’s dedication to workers’ welfare. We are confident that these assurances will translate into tangible benefits for our members and strengthen the bond between NULGE and local government leadership,” he stated.
The meeting featured interactive discussions on labor rights, productivity strategies, and future welfare improvements.
Branch executives from across Lagos State were in attendance, aligning with Conference 58’s wider agenda of promoting inclusive and responsive governance.
Also present were the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Mr. Sotubo Adeyemi; Head of Department, Budget, Mrs. Avoseh Senami, among other dignitaries.
