President Bola Tinubu has urged Fulani herders to end open grazing, surrender illegal firearms, and adopt ranching as part of a new national strategy aimed at resolving Nigeria’s long-standing conflict between farmers and herders.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement issued on Wednesday, the President said the Federal Government is focusing on long-term and sustainable solutions to stop the violent confrontations between herders and farming communities.

These clashes have contributed greatly to instability in many states across the northern and central regions.
Tinubu’s appeal comes amid a rise in attacks and abductions, including a wave of school kidnappings in Niger and Kebbi states during the past week, along with continued violence in the North Central region where many people have been killed in recent months.
“Ranching is now the path forward for sustainable livestock farming and national harmony,” the President said. He encouraged all herder associations to take advantage of the government’s new initiatives, end open grazing, and hand over any illegal weapons.
The President also appealed to churches and mosques, especially in vulnerable areas, to work with security agencies in order to strengthen protection during worship and public gatherings.
Tinubu pointed to the newly created Ministry of Livestock as a major component of the administration’s long-term plan. He urged herder associations to work with the ministry, modernise livestock production, and fully embrace ranch-based systems. According to him, the new livestock policy is designed to reduce land-use tensions and increase safety for both farmers and herders.

To support this transition, Tinubu said the Federal Government, in collaboration with state governments, will create frameworks for ranch development and intensify efforts to limit the circulation of illegal arms.
Meanwhile, in Edo State, the government has increased security after threats from a man who claimed to be a bandit in the Edo Central Senatorial District. In a statement issued by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, residents were assured of adequate protection.
The governor convened a security meeting after a viral video showed the alleged bandit threatening communities in and around Ekpoma. Recently, the Edo State Special Security Squad arrested two suspected kidnappers, Anthony Fedigha Ebimienwei and Luke Disemoh, in the Egbai community of Ovia North East Local Government Area, following what officials described as intelligence driven surveillance.
The state government urged citizens to remain calm, stay alert, and cooperate with security agencies. It also warned against the spread of misinformation. Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his commitment to protecting residents, commuters, and investors throughout the state.
