Former Kaduna State Governor, Ahmed Makarfi, has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will overcome its internal difficulties and re-emerge stronger ahead of future electoral contests.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that he spoke on Monday at the Southern Kaduna PDP Stakeholders’ Summit held in Kafanchan, the headquarters of Jema’a Local Government Area, where party leaders and members gathered to review the party’s direction.

The meeting was convened under the theme, “Get Strengthened: A Wake-Up Call to PDP Members.”

Makarfi noted that the PDP had endured years of turbulence that would have crippled many political parties, yet it has continued to survive.
He urged members to stay committed, focused and united as preparations for the 2027 general elections are expected to begin in earnest next year.
The former governor also warned against the growing influence of money in party primaries, stressing the need for credible and principled candidates.
According to him, the party’s future depends on leaders with integrity, capacity and a genuine commitment to the people.

In his address, the Kaduna State PDP Chairman, Edward Marsha, praised party supporters for standing by the current leadership, despite recent challenges.
He said the departure of some members had opened space for emerging leaders who would help reposition the party for renewed relevance.
Similarly, the Southern Kaduna PDP Zonal Chairman, Danjuma Akuso, played down concerns over defections, insisting that the party remains firmly established in the zone.

Also speaking at the summit, former Deputy Governor Nuhu Bajoga and the immediate past state PDP Chairman, Felix Hyet, reaffirmed their determination to return the party to power in 2027.
Other stakeholders recalled the party’s impact in Southern Kaduna during the Makarfi administration, pointing to the creation of chiefdoms and improvements in rural infrastructure, including road projects, as part of what they described as the PDP’s enduring legacy in the area.
