The Federal Government has announced a nationwide ban on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) in all public and private secondary schools.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the directive, issued through the Federal Ministry of Education, is part of efforts to curb the rising incidence of examination malpractice, including the use of so-called “special centres” during external exams, which have undermined the credibility of Nigeria’s education system.

The Ministry stated that the policy will take effect from the 2026/27 academic session. Under the new rule, admissions and transfers will only be allowed into Senior Secondary School One (SS1) and Senior Secondary School Two (SS2). Admission or transfer into SS3 will no longer be permitted under any circumstance.

According to the Ministry, the measure is designed to discourage last-minute student movements aimed at gaining examination advantages, ensure proper academic monitoring, and promote continuity in teaching and learning.
School proprietors, principals, and administrators have been instructed to comply fully, with any violations attracting sanctions in accordance with existing education regulations.
The Federal Ministry of Education reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding academic standards, promoting fairness, and restoring credibility to public examinations across the country.
