2027 Presidency: Peter Obi Won’t Contest Under Labour Party – Former LP Governorship Candidate

- The Former Governorship Candidate expressed his belief that the Labour Party has no future and that Obi will not pursue the presidency under the party’s platform in the future.
- Maybe I am wrong, but I am a witness to a lot of discussions around coalitions, and I can tell you my own optimism about that.
Valentine Ozigbo, former Anambra State governorship candidate and ally of ex-Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi, has expressed his belief that the LP has no future and that Obi will not pursue the presidency under the party’s platform in the future.
Eko Hot Blog reports Ozigbo who resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2022 to support Obi’s presidential ambitions and subsequently defected from LP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in February 2025, shared his views on the political landscape in Nigeria.

In his resignation letter, Ozigbo cited his “unwavering commitment” to a greater vision for Anambra State as the reason for his defection. He also mentioned informing Obi of his decision as a “mark of deep respect” for his leadership.
However, appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, the former governorship candidate said: “I don’t see a future for the Labour Party. I’m happy to live with that assertion, and I would like to be proven wrong.
“Peter Obi, that we are talking about, also left ANPP for APGA, then PDP, and later Labour Party, and I can almost guarantee that if he wishes to run for election, it’s not going to be under Labour Party.
“I can almost guarantee that. I am not his spokesperson.
“Maybe I am wrong, but I am a witness to a lot of discussions around coalitions, and I can tell you my own optimism about that.”
