23 Killed in Kano Road Crash

A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of at least 23 passengers along the Kano-Maiduguri road under the Muhammadu Buhari Interchange Flyover.
The fatal crash, which occurred on Thursday night, involved a DAF model trailer carrying both goods and passengers.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander in Kano, Umar Matazu, confirmed the incident, stating that a total of 71 people were involved in the accident.
While 23 lost their lives, 48 others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Matazu attributed the accident to dangerous driving and overspeeding, which resulted in the driver losing control of the vehicle under the bridge. “The crash was caused by reckless driving at high speed, leading to loss of control,” he said.
Following the tragic incident, the FRSC has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. Matazu extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
He further warned drivers and transport operators against the dangerous practice of overloading trailers with goods, animals, and passengers, emphasizing that such actions greatly increase the risk of accidents.

Authorities have since cleared the wreckage, and normal traffic flow has been restored on the busy highway.
