Edo Election: ‘It Didn’t Originate From Me” – Osifeko Denies Congratulating Obaseki
A renowned businessman and All Progressives Congress stalwart in Lagos state, George Olusegun Osifeko, has debunked a congratulatory message to governor Godwin Obaseki attributed him.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Obaseki who contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the Edo State governorship election earlier in the day
Following the declaration by INEC, the governor was inundated with a deluge of congratulatory messages by both ordinary Nigerians and powerful persons.
But in a message being circulated on popular instant messaging platform, WhatsApp, one Osifeko sent a congratulatory message to Obaseki and the PDP.
The message read “Let me expressly say that Obaseki didn’t win this election based on his performance or love for the PDP. APC played into the hands of the opposition and 3 major things I think played against us:
” Oshiomole already dented Pastor Ize-Iyamu’s image seriously and praised Obaseki to high heavens in 2016 so the PDP didn’t invest so much on PR or Image laundering. Oshiomole already gave them what they needed to campaign about both candidates.
” The election was painted like a power tussle between Godfatherism and the people of Edo. This was emboldened by obvious influence of Oshiomole and the viral video made by Asiwaju Tinubu”
But in a swift response, Osifeko disassociates himself from the message describing it as nebulous.
He said the message is a calculated attempt by mischief-maker to smear his reputation, adding that those behind it are aware of his unalloyed loyalty and investment in the party.
He implored those behind the message to clear the air on which Osifeko is being referred to
He said “The write-up titled “Congrats to the people of Edo, Obaseki and the PDP credited to a nebulous Mr Osifeko on an APC platform is a short piece of mischief by an expert confusionist who set up to tar me with a brush of dishonour.
” I am a private businessman with undisguised sympathy for the APC, a party I committed much of my resources to help in retaining political power in Lagos State. My full names are George Olusegun Osifeko and I dissociate myself totally from the mischievous write-up signed by a Mr Osifeko which definitely cannot be me.
“The sponsor of that piece will do well to now identify which Osifeko is the writer. If it was meant to misrepresent me and paint me in negative colours in Epe division and Lagos State in general, those behind it have goofed.”
