The Trump administration has announced plans for a nationwide crackdown on undocumented immigrants beginning Tuesday, marking one of the administration’s first major actions since Donald Trump’s return to the White House.
Tom Homan, Trump’s newly appointed “border czar” and former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), confirmed the operation in a Friday interview with Fox News.

He stated the raids will target cities across the country, including Chicago, where a large-scale operation is expected to begin.
“There’s going to be a big raid across the country. Chicago is just one of many places,” Homan said.
He added that ICE officers are being directed to “enforce immigration law without apology” and prioritize threats to public safety.
However, he emphasized, “no one is off the table” if they are in the country illegally.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the Chicago operation will involve 100 to 200 ICE officers and is expected to last for a week.
Other major cities are anticipated to face similar actions as part of the effort to fulfill Trump’s campaign promise to deport millions of undocumented immigrants.
Chicago police spokesperson Don Terry stated the city will not cooperate with federal immigration authorities, aligning with its status as a “sanctuary city.”
He clarified, “The department does not document immigration status and will not share information with federal authorities.”

Sanctuary cities, largely Democratic-led, have pledged to protect undocumented immigrants from deportation unless they commit serious crimes.
A representative for Trump declined to comment on the operation.
As the raids approach, immigrant communities and advocacy groups are bracing for their impact.
