Beijing is one of Islamabad’s most significant economic partners, with tens of billions of dollars already committed to energy, transport, and industrial projects. These initiatives fall under the broader Belt and Road Initiative championed by Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Officials say the visit comes at a time when Pakistan is actively pursuing stronger economic links with regional partners, including China, Gulf states, and Central Asia, to stabilize growth. The country is currently operating under a $7 billion support program from the International Monetary Fund.
During his stay, Zardari will visit Changsha in Hunan province before traveling to the resort city of Sanya in Hainan province. Engagements are expected to focus on boosting bilateral trade and exploring fresh avenues for investment.
The trip also coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, a milestone both sides say reflects the durability of their long-standing strategic partnership.
