During her absence, the fire broke out, reducing the home to ashes and claiming the lives of the two children.

Efforts by neighbors to extinguish the flames and rescue the boys proved unsuccessful. “People called the state fire service, but by the time they arrived, it was too late. The kids had died,” a witness said.
The charred remains of the siblings were later taken to the morgue at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital in Akure.

Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating that investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.

“The children were choked and burnt in the fire. Their mother had locked them in the room while she went to search for food,” the PPRO said.
