Santiago Castro’s late strike secured Bologna a 1-0 victory over Atalanta on Tuesday, sending them into the Coppa Italia semi-finals for the first time since 1999.
The 19-year-old Argentine forward powered home Charalampos Lykogiannis’ cross in the 80th minute, capping off a determined display in Bergamo and extending Bologna’s strong debut season under coach Vincenzo Italiano.

Bologna will now face either Juventus or Empoli in a two-legged semi-final in April as they chase their first major trophy since lifting the Coppa Italia in 1974.
Meanwhile, Atalanta, last year’s beaten finalists, continued their struggles, having won just twice in their last 10 matches.
