Several online publications had previously reported that officials discovered around 47 pump-action rifles and live cartridges in Obasa’s office.

It was also claimed that the Department of State Services (DSS) was notified and subsequently conducted an inventory of the arms found.
Obasa, a six-term lawmaker, released a personally signed statement in Lagos on Thursday, denying any involvement in the alleged discovery.
Responding to the allegations, Mudashiru Obasa, who served as Lagos State Assembly Speaker for three terms, dismissed the reports as attempts to damage his reputation.
Obasa expressed his belief that the claims of discovering arms in his office were a fabrication created by his opponents.
He further argued that the allegations were inherently implausible and unsubstantiated, emphasizing that such attempts to discredit him were bound to fail due to their lack of credibility
Obasa said: “My attention has been drawn to a viral, hatchet job disguised as journalism, published on Feb. 18.
“The ill-conceived story, besides being a complete fabrication, exposes its author and sponsors as malicious individuals with a low intelligence quotient.

“The story aimed to malign my hard-earned reputation, built over decades of political leadership and legislative dedication.
“In their desperation to defame me, their laughable narrative — an outright abuse of social media — left many gaps, with obvious questions left unanswered.
“The report cited phantom sources in the Assembly and alleged the discovery followed an uproar over DSS presence in the complex.”
Obasa says he remains confident that the DSS investigation will reveal the truth behind the alleged arms discovery in his office.
He insists that the voluntary DSS invitation will expose those behind the attempts to blackmail him through false accusations.
