The Eagles previously skipped a White House visit after their 2018 Super Bowl win, but according to US media reports, the team intends to attend this year’s event. Rumours of their refusal resurfaced after a weeks-old report from The US Sun gained traction online, sparking debate on social media.
The Eagles secured their second Super Bowl title earlier this month with a 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. The tradition of championship-winning teams visiting the White House dates back to the 19th century, though in recent years, some teams have opted out as a form of protest.

During Trump’s first term, only one of the four Super Bowl-winning teams—the New England Patriots in 2017—attended a White House celebration.
The Eagles’ 2018 absence was linked to Trump’s stance on national anthem protests, though the team never publicly confirmed their reason for skipping the event. Instead, Trump hosted a “celebration of the American flag” for Eagles fans.

The controversy over sports teams visiting the White House was not limited to the NFL. In 2017, NBA champions the Golden State Warriors were uninvited after star player Stephen Curry expressed disinterest in attending. When the team won again in 2018, they were not invited at all.
Despite some high-profile absences, Trump’s presidency also saw memorable sports team visits. In 2018, he famously welcomed Clemson University’s football team with an array of fast food from McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and other chains.
