The Delta State Police Command has launched a full homicide investigation into the killing of retired High Court Judge, Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, whose body was found bound inside her home in Asaba on November 24, 2025.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to police authorities, the incident was discovered after the late judge’s brother visited her residence and met her lifeless body in the sitting room. Her hands, legs and mouth were tied, indicating she had been restrained before her death. Once the report was filed, the Divisional Police Officer of A Division in Asaba led a team to the scene. The body was removed and taken to the mortuary for an autopsy.
Police confirmed the arrest of one suspect identified as Lucky Matthew. However, the prime suspect, Godwin Vanem, reportedly fled the apartment moments after the attack and is currently on the run. Preliminary findings suggest he may have carried out the killing before escaping.
On the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, the case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for a more detailed probe.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Edafe Bright said the Commissioner of Police expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and assured them that justice will be served.
