The Kauru Local Council Community Development Associations (CDAs) expressed their sorrow over a recent attack in Surubu community, Kumana chiefdom, where three people were killed despite ransom payments.
Communities Demand Action
Speaking on behalf of the associations, Duniya Achi condemned the attack, describing it as a painful reminder of the insecurity in the area.
“We are heartbroken by this act of violence. We mourn with the families of the victims and stand by them in this difficult time,” Achi said.
He acknowledged the government’s efforts in setting up a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kauru to improve security. However, he stressed that more action is needed.
What the Communities Want
The community groups called on the government and security agencies to:
- Increase the number of security personnel in the area.
- Provide better equipment and resources for security forces.
- Work closely with local vigilantes and community leaders to track down criminals.
They also urged the government to address the root causes of insecurity, such as poverty, unemployment, and poor infrastructure.
“If people have jobs, good roads, and basic services, crime will reduce, and our communities will be safer,” Achi added.
Stay Vigilant
The communities encouraged residents to be alert and report any suspicious activities to authorities.
