Local vigilantes in Kontagora town, Niger State, have reportedly engaged in a fierce gunfight with suspected bandits, successfully rescuing nine kidnapped individuals.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the incident occurred between 9 pm and 10 pm on Thursday, tragically resulted in the death of one vigilante and the injury of another.

According to sources, the bandits initially attacked two communities, Waya and Basawa, abducting a total of nine people.

The vigilantes responded swiftly, managing to track down the criminals and engage them in a gun battle at Umma Farms on the outskirts of town.
The bravery and timely intervention of the vigilantes allowed for the safe rescue of all nine victims. However, the battle came at a cost, with vigilante member Aliyu Agaji losing his life, and another sustaining injuries.
At the time of reporting, representatives from the Niger State Police Command could not be reached for comment on the incident.
