The vibrant Kayokayo 2025 Festival commenced on Sunday, July 6th in Eko-Epe with a Quranic recitation and inter-ward quiz competition, setting a spiritually uplifting tone for the week-long celebration that blends history, faith, and culture.
Ekohotblog reports that the symbolic festival honors the 1851 migration of Oba Kosoko Morounfolu Okun-Oye from Lagos to Epe, a journey remembered as one of divine purpose and historic transformation, often likened to that of Prophet Noah (P.B.U.H).

The opening ceremony took place at the Eko-Epe Central Mosque, where young contestants from five wards showcased their mastery of the Quran, reinforcing Epe’s well-known identity as “Epe Alaluquran”, meaning “Epe owns the Quran.”
Speaking to newsmen after the event, the President-General of the League of Imams and Alfas, Epe Division, Sheikh Sadala Abiola Aliru, expressed satisfaction with the brilliant performance of the participants.

Sheikh Aliru emphasized the importance of nurturing Islamic scholarship among the youth and revealed his aspirations for the competition to expand beyond the local level.
“What we’ve started here is bigger than us. With dedication and consistency, this competition will become a global platform for young minds to shine”
Announcing the results, Sheikh Aliru commended all participants for their commitment and revealed that four of the five wards had qualified for the grand finale, which will be held on Friday, July 19th.
