As part of activities marking the 2025 edition of the annual Kayokayo Festival in Epe, a Qur’anic and Quiz Competition was held at the historic First Epe Central Mosque, Okebalogun.
Ekohotblog reports that the spiritually enriching event brought together young Islamic scholars and intellectuals from different quarters of Epe, reviving the long-standing tradition of Quranic excellence in the region.

The competition featured participants from various areas including Bado Isale, Bado Oke, Oke Oba/Popo Oba, Oke Balogun, Oke Posun/Lagbade, and Isale-Agoro.
Both the quiz and Qur’anic recitation contests were keenly contested, drawing the admiration of scholars, clerics, and community leaders present.
Former Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University of Education (LASUED), Professor Nosirudeen Onibon, who was one of the distinguished guests, emphasized the importance of investing more in Qur’anic and Islamic education to ensure Epe stands out at state and national levels.
“Qur’anic and quiz competitions like this should be focused on more to make Epe stand out in state and national competitions,” he said during an interview at the event.
The recitation segment was divided into three parts: Final Juz ‘Amma, Juz Tabaarak, and Juz Mujaadalah. Below are the results from each category:
Final Juz ‘Amma:
Oke Balogun – 95 points
Oke Oba/Popo Oba – 84 points
Isale Agoro – 75 points
Oke Iposu – 67 points
Juz Tabaarak (Suratul Mulk):
Oke Oba/Popo Oba – 96 points
Oke Balogun – 81 points
Isale Agoro – 74 points
Oke Iposu/Lagbade – 59 points
Juz Mujaadalah:
Oke Balogun – 77 points
Oke Oba/Popo Oba – 72 points
Oke Iposu/Lagbade – 67 points
Bado Isale – 49 points
Overall Results:
1st: Oke Oba/Popo Oba – 271 points
2nd: Oke Balogun – 268 points
3rd: Isale Agoro – 194 points
The winners in both the quiz and Qur’anic competitions were presented with plaques and trophies in recognition of their dedication and outstanding performances.
During the award presentation, Alhaja Kehinde Olusola Alade Raji urged parents and clerics to continually encourage children to learn the Qur’an and understand its meaning.
“It will be useful for them in the future and will help preserve our spiritual values,” she said.
Also speaking at the event, Alhaja Osiefa, Director of Business and Agriculture, Lagos State, advised parents and Islamic scholars to remain committed to Islamic education.
“We must take the learning of Qur’an seriously with our children so that what Epe, ‘Epe Oni Qurani’, is known for will never be forgotten,” she stressed.
The Kosoko family was also well represented. Their secretary assured the gathering of the royal family’s continuous support and commitment to the festival.
“Kosoko is always with you. We will participate fully again this year and beyond,” he said.

The well-attended program was graced by notable figures including Alhaja Raji (wife of Rep. Wale Raji), Alhaja Osiefa, representatives from the Kosoko Royal Family, the Grand Chief Imam of Epe, and several respected Islamic scholars and community leaders.
The event not only reinforced the essence of Kayokayo as a cultural and religious celebration but also reignited the flame of Islamic scholarship for which Epe is renowned.
