EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a letter dated July 4, 2025, addressed to the PDP chairman in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Melaye cited the party’s failure to address Nigeria’s political and governance challenges. He shared the letter on his official Twitter account.
The former governorship candidate said his decision came after careful reflection on the state of the PDP and its declining capacity to help the nation overcome its leadership crisis. According to Melaye, the PDP has lost its relevance in providing solutions to the political cankerworms destroying the nation.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement,” he wrote. “The party lacks the potency and capacity to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political decay.”
He further stated that he could no longer participate in or support a party whose agenda does not align with the aspirations of the Nigerian people.
Melaye’s departure marks a significant political shift, as he has been a vocal figure within the PDP for years, actively participating in its national discourse and electoral processes.

The PDP is yet to issue a response to Melaye’s resignation, which adds to the growing list of internal challenges facing the opposition party in the build-up to future elections.
