A massive fire outbreak on Saturday razed four out of five blocks of three bedroom flats at No. 13 Nelson Mandela Street, Asokoro, Abuja, one of the high profile districts of the Federal Capital Territory.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the affected property is believed to be owned by a former Zamfara State governor and serving senator, Sani Yerima.
Preliminary findings indicated that the fire started from solar panels mounted on the roof of one of the buildings before spreading rapidly to adjoining flats, causing extensive damage.
The incident was confirmed by the Head of Public Affairs of the Federal Emergency Management Department, Nkechi Isa.
Quoting the Head of the FEMD Search and Rescue Team, Monday Addie, Isa said the fire was reported at about 1pm and that no casualties were recorded.
She said, “According to the Head of FEMD Search and Rescue Team, Mr Monday Addie, the incident was reported at about 1pm. No life was lost to the incident. However, the four affected flats were totally burned.”
Isa added that the inferno destroyed household items including furniture, clothing, foodstuffs, and other personal belongings of the occupants.
She said emergency responders from several agencies were mobilised to the scene to contain the blaze and prevent further spread.
“Personnel of FEMD, the Federal Fire Service, FCT Fire Service, the National Emergency Management Agency, and the FCT Police Command attended to the incident,” Isa said.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact cause of the fire had not been officially established, as investigations were still ongoing.
