EKO HOT BLOG reports that residents said the attackers invaded the village at about 8:00 a.m. on motorcycles and opened fire on villagers, triggering panic and forcing many people to flee for safety.
Community sources told journalists that the gunmen stormed the area while residents were gathered under makeshift sheds and began shooting indiscriminately.
A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attack caught many villagers by surprise.
“They came and started shooting at us. People ran in different directions to save their lives,” the source said.
According to local sources, no fewer than 20 people lost their lives in the latest attack, although the casualty figure had yet to be officially confirmed by authorities as of the time of filing this report.
Several houses were reportedly set ablaze during the raid, while many residents remained unaccounted for, raising fears that the death toll could rise.
The latest violence comes just two days after bandits reportedly attacked the same community on Sunday. During that assault, at least 17 people, including visitors who had travelled to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festivities, were killed.
The attackers were also said to have looted about 20 shops during the earlier raid before fleeing the area.
The repeated attacks have heightened fear among residents, who have appealed to security agencies and government authorities to take urgent steps to restore security and prevent further bloodshed.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Rufai, confirmed that the command received a distress call from Tureta Local Government Area.

He said security personnel were immediately deployed to the affected community and added that the command was awaiting a detailed report from officers conducting operations on the ground.
