EKO HOT BLOG reports that the honour was bestowed on Saturday as part of activities marking the monarch’s 10th coronation anniversary, which commenced on August 2. Mrs Tinubu was represented at the event by Oluremi Hamzat, wife of the Lagos State Deputy Governor.
In her acceptance remarks, Mrs Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the royal families and people of Ikorodu for the recognition, describing it as both a personal honour and a call to greater service. “The title of Iya Oba carries not just prestige, but responsibility. I am fully aware of the cultural significance of this honour, and Ikorodu holds a special place in the heart of Lagos,” she said.

The First Lady reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the well-being of Nigerians, noting that service to the people remains a top priority for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. She also congratulated Oba Shotobi and the people of Ikorodu on the anniversary, commending the monarch for his decade-long leadership, which she said had been marked by peace, progress, stability, and cultural preservation.
Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, who was also present, praised Oba Shotobi for his inclusive and impactful leadership. He noted that under the monarch’s reign, Ikorodu had evolved from a rural settlement into a thriving business hub, producing many indigenes who have attained national prominence.
