Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has declared Wednesday, 20 August 2025, a work-free day for public servants to mark the annual Isese Day celebration.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the announcement was made in a circular signed by the Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro, on Monday, 18 August 2025, addressed to senior officials across ministries, agencies, local councils, and parastatals.

The circular stated, “It is hereby notified for general information that this year’s Isese Day Celebration will hold on Wednesday, 20 August 2025.”

Reaffirming the state government’s cultural policy, it emphasised, “In support of the State Government’s commitment to promoting our indigenous culture, traditions, and heritage, while providing necessary support for traditional institutions, Mr. Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has declared Wednesday, 20 August 2025, a work-free day for Lagos State public servants in commemoration of the Day.”
Government offices are scheduled to reopen the following day. “Work will resume on Thursday, 21 August 2025, at 8:00 a.m. All Accounting Officers are advised to note the contents of this Circular and ensure it receives Service-wide publicity,” Agoro added.
Isese Day celebrates Yoruba culture, spirituality, and indigenous traditions. In recent years, Lagos State has officially recognised the event to encourage cultural preservation and inclusivity.
